Well, hello there, my friend.
Speaker:Jonathan Doyle with you once again.
Speaker:Listen, can I say this to you?
Speaker:I want you to do something.
Speaker:From this day forward, I want you to start betting on you.
Speaker:I want you to start betting on you.
Speaker:I want you to get in your own corner, get on your own team,
Speaker:and start to genuinely believe in your own goodness and potential.
Speaker:Are you perfect?
Speaker:No.
Speaker:Are you a complete saint?
Speaker:Not yet, but you are on the way.
Speaker:If you're listening to this kind of content, you're obviously in the game.
Speaker:But I would like to suggest to you that so many people spend their lives so utterly
Speaker:focused upon their suffering, the problems they've had, what they didn't get, and
Speaker:I just want to encourage you to not live any more of your life looking backwards.
Speaker:We've been given this beautiful gift of memory, and it's kind of… It's
Speaker:very beautiful to be able to look back at the challenges, the ups,
Speaker:the downs, as, as you get older, the highs and lows, this incredible
Speaker:rich tapestry that is your life.
Speaker:But so many people look backwards with shame, with guilt, with regret.
Speaker:Am I saying that we should just be like, you know, completely forgetting
Speaker:every bad thing we've ever done?
Speaker:No, we learn from our mistakes, and we grow all the time, but
Speaker:we've got to learn to bet on ourselves, to get on our own team.
Speaker:This life you have been given is remarkably short.
Speaker:I know it feels long, but when you compare it to this vast cosmos
Speaker:we're in, it's a blink of an eye.
Speaker:And I've been so struck by this as I get older, I'm like thinking, I'm not
Speaker:worried about dying and I'm… but I'm just like, "Wow, there is just like so
Speaker:much to do and so much to contribute, and I wanna serve so many people,
Speaker:and, and I just wanna keep growing." And I have to learn to bet on myself.
Speaker:I have to learn to push myself forward.
Speaker:And I don't do it from arrogance.
Speaker:I do it because the more that we get on our own team, the more we can
Speaker:genuinely be alive for other people.
Speaker:You come alive when you actually believe, in some sense, in your own goodness
Speaker:and your own capacity to, to be okay.
Speaker:Like, I don't know what your experience has been, depending on how you were
Speaker:raised and the experiences you've had, but I've-- my, my experience and encounter
Speaker:with so many people is that it's not about they lack self-confidence, it's
Speaker:they've never really conceptualized the idea that they could be remarkable.
Speaker:That there's this vast cosmos, and there's only one of them that has ever existed.
Speaker:My friend, if you're listening to me, there has only ever been one of you.
Speaker:There will only ever be one of you.
Speaker:Like, God wanted you to exist.
Speaker:You are handcrafted.
Speaker:Bet on you These unique gifts and a ta- uh, like talents and abilities
Speaker:that you've been given have been given to no one else, not in the specific
Speaker:way that they've been given to you.
Speaker:And so many of us have heard the old, you know, you're playing
Speaker:small, doesn't serve anyone.
Speaker:So there's a spectrum here, right?
Speaker:Like we, on that extreme end is like narcissism, and I don't think
Speaker:that's gonna be your problem.
Speaker:I don't think you're really gonna… If, if you listen to this, you wanna grow.
Speaker:You don't listen to this so you can figure out, "Well, I hope Jonathan's gonna
Speaker:tell me some way that I can manipulate people and make their lives worse."
Speaker:That's not why you're listening.
Speaker:But I wanna encourage you to get on your own team, to believe in your own goodness.
Speaker:And so many times, uh, in the podcast I've talked about, you
Speaker:know, not waiting for a rescue.
Speaker:Not waiting for a rescue.
Speaker:I know I've got many listeners with a faith perspective, and yeah, with His
Speaker:grace and, and God in, you know, aids us as we try to grow and serve people.
Speaker:But don't wait for a rescue.
Speaker:Don't wait for a magical day when you'll find the perfect therapist
Speaker:or somebody will, you know, say the perfect combination of words,
Speaker:and then you'll be like, "Oh, wow.
Speaker:Now I'm healed.
Speaker:Now I'm whole.
Speaker:Now I can start living." What if that day never comes?
Speaker:What if that perfect combination of words never happens for you?
Speaker:What if you just bet on you?
Speaker:What if you just start?
Speaker:What if you went, "Hey, look, can I just say it to you? You're a good person." Like
Speaker:you're, and I know when I say that, you're thinking, "You don't know me, Jonathan.
Speaker:You, you're never gonna meet me." No, if you're listening to this, you are, because
Speaker:the only people that listen to this kinda content are people that want to improve.
Speaker:And if there's anything in you that wants to improve, that's good.
Speaker:That's goodness.
Speaker:You want more from this one beautiful life.
Speaker:You wanna experience more, contribute more.
Speaker:So you're okay.
Speaker:You're okay But I want you to bet on you.
Speaker:In the last few weeks, I've been working with a lot of people in
Speaker:k- in a coaching capacity and just encountering people, and it just
Speaker:strikes me, so many people are lost.
Speaker:So many people are just deeply confused and uncertain about their own wonderful
Speaker:capacity and all that they could do and experience, and I don't want that for you.
Speaker:I, I guess what I'm saying is I've been struck by this deep belief
Speaker:that you're here for a unique purpose, and I really mean it.
Speaker:I just finished reading Robert Greene's book, Mastery, and that,
Speaker:and that book really spoke to me.
Speaker:It was a hard read, but it spoke to me because it's this idea that, that people
Speaker:that we think are, like, world-changing geniuses are usually people that just have
Speaker:this profound passion and engagement with something, and we mistake it for talent.
Speaker:We go, "Oh, the pixie fairy dust, the unicorns came in the night and
Speaker:sprinkled talent dust on them."
Speaker:No, all they had was some luck, where they were born, particular family, some
Speaker:experiences, and an, and an aptitude for something, an interest in something.
Speaker:And that interest became important, and then they just poured time and energy
Speaker:into it, but they bet on themselves.
Speaker:In that book, Mastery, you know, they talk a fair bit about, uh, Mozart.
Speaker:And, you know, Mozart bet on Mozart.
Speaker:There's a profound moment in Mozart's life where his father had been, like,
Speaker:profoundly, uh, controlling, I guess, you know, over his life and the life of his
Speaker:sister, and he, his father had kind of paraded him and his sister around European
Speaker:court capitals kind of like little toy children and, 'cause they were so
Speaker:prodigious and brilliant at a young age.
Speaker:But eventually, as they aged, the kind of, that kind of shtick wore off.
Speaker:But Mozart's incredible passion for music continued, and he had this kind
Speaker:of big falling out with his father where he finally said, "You know,
Speaker:look, I'm, I'm, I'm gonna go." And, and he left and fought and went off
Speaker:on his own because of his deep passion and aptitude and love for music.
Speaker:But can I say that ultimately, what did, what did he do?
Speaker:He bet on himself.
Speaker:He bet on himself.
Speaker:Einstein's another great example, right?
Speaker:Like, he was not a great student.
Speaker:He was not a great student, but he was taken with some very specific
Speaker:questions in physics and quantum physics.
Speaker:Do you know he spent 10 years working at a patent office?
Speaker:It was, like, a pretty low-grade job, and his friends that he'd studied with all
Speaker:went off to do these amazing things, and he's at this patent office for 10 years.
Speaker:But do you know what he did most of that time?
Speaker:He just spent a lot of time thinking about the problems that
Speaker:he was working on, just thinking.
Speaker:He was betting on himself the whole time.
Speaker:Everyone's like, "Why don't you start this?
Speaker:Why don't you become a professor?
Speaker:Why don't you go and do this?" And he's like, "Yeah, no, I'm good.
Speaker:I'm good.
Speaker:I'm working on something.
Speaker:I'm working on the most profound theory of the universe since Isaac Newton.
Speaker:We're gonna just replace Newtonian physics." So he bet on himself.
Speaker:What i- what's your special gift?
Speaker:What is that thing that you've always been good at?
Speaker:What's that thing that since you were little people said,
Speaker:"Well, hey, you're good at that"?
Speaker:Are you funny?
Speaker:Are you a great communicator?
Speaker:Are you a great student?
Speaker:Well, what is it that you've been given?
Speaker:Do you even know that?
Speaker:Like, do you, do you even know what your X factor is?
Speaker:Or do you think that of all the people on the planet, God was like, "Well, I
Speaker:gotta make eight billion in this batch, but, um, the, you know, this person
Speaker:here," whoever's listening to Jonathan, "yeah, you don't, you don't get anything.
Speaker:You know, you just gotta work- You just go, you just, you
Speaker:just gotta breathe," right?
Speaker:You got no… Seriously, do you really think that God would go to
Speaker:all that trouble and not give you some unique special capacities?
Speaker:So why not bet on them?
Speaker:Look at what I do, right?
Speaker:Like, I get to spend my time doing what I love to do, because whether
Speaker:it's on stage or in the studio, I get to just, just do this.
Speaker:Like, you can sense it in me, right?
Speaker:I just wanna help people.
Speaker:I want people to grow.
Speaker:So I'm betting on myself to do that.
Speaker:I don't even think about, you know, competition or am I
Speaker:betting anybody else or worse.
Speaker:I don't even think about it.
Speaker:I'm just thinking, "I'm just gonna keep doing this while people are listening.
Speaker:I'm just gonna keep going, and if people stop listening, I'll
Speaker:just do it to the bus driver.
Speaker:I'll do it to my kids.
Speaker:I'll talk to the dog." Whatever it is, I'm gonna bet on myself.
Speaker:I'm gonna be the best personal development specialist for canines, whatever.
Speaker:But if you can't bet on yourself, who's gonna bet on you?
Speaker:Do you think there's gonna be this one day where all of a sudden somebody turns
Speaker:up and goes, "I just wanna-- I've, I'm here to rescue you and to fix all your
Speaker:problems and to, and to help you live your unique special abilities and capacities"?
Speaker:That day is not coming.
Speaker:So come to your own rescue.
Speaker:Bet on yourself.
Speaker:Bet on yourself.
Speaker:I don't know how else to say it.
Speaker:I wish there was some profound insight I could give you other than you've
Speaker:been given unique gifts, talents, and abilities, and you need to trust that
Speaker:they were given to you for a reason, and there's something so beautiful in that.
Speaker:Something so beautiful, and just that God can basically roll out a batch of
Speaker:eight billion people at a time, give or take, and I'm just so convinced
Speaker:that every single unique one of them…
Speaker:There's a guy on Instagram at the moment who's in a wheelchair, and he's obviously
Speaker:got some profound, uh, handicaps, like just, you know, life in a wheelchair
Speaker:from birth and, and struggles to speak.
Speaker:But he just, he just every day shares his faith and his joy and talks about
Speaker:his suffering, and I'm like, "This guy is, like, living this life that the
Speaker:rest of us would obviously not want," but he's like, he's betting on himself.
Speaker:He's still bringing something beautiful into the world through this
Speaker:unique gift that he's been given.
Speaker:This unique gift to take his setbacks and challenges and sufferings and, and
Speaker:this disability and just, just still speak and still reach out to people.
Speaker:So if he can bet on himself, what is your excuse?
Speaker:Bet on you.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:Can you do that?
Speaker:Can you start to think about it, to betting on yourself?
Speaker:Because no one else is gonna do it for you.
Speaker:All right.
