Speaker:

We had a great David Goggins quote, and I'm just going to keep going

Speaker:

because I've sourced some of my favorite David Goggins quotes.

Speaker:

I think he's got a lot of teachers.

Speaker:

I want to share it with you.

Speaker:

Today's quote is really simple.

Speaker:

It's riff on it.

Speaker:

It's is this the only way?

Speaker:

To change your life, the only way to change your life.

Speaker:

Is to change your mind.

Speaker:

The only way to change your life is to change your mind.

Speaker:

Sometimes these short quotes can be so powerful, but they

Speaker:

just cut through think about it.

Speaker:

The only change that is going to happen in your life is going to

Speaker:

happen because of some shift in your cognitive approach towards it.

Speaker:

You see, magical unicorns do not come out of the sky and sprinkle fairy dust

Speaker:

and radically change, whatever area of your life it is that you want to change.

Speaker:

Whether it's goals, whether it's relationships, whether it's fitness,

Speaker:

whether it's diet, whether it's finances, whether it's spirituality.

Speaker:

Very few of you listening have looked Skyward and seen a unicorn descending with

Speaker:

fairy dust sprinkling and upon your head.

Speaker:

And all of a sudden you're like, you know, 15 kilos lighter with a massive six pack.

Speaker:

How'd that happen?

Speaker:

This is like, well, I just, I didn't do anything.

Speaker:

I just was walking outside.

Speaker:

And the next thing I know I'm ripped.

Speaker:

That's not how it works.

Speaker:

Isn't so how does it work?

Speaker:

Well, Uh, mine's change.

Speaker:

What we value changes, what we place value upon how we use our time changes.

Speaker:

What we think is significant.

Speaker:

What we start doing or stop doing is all conditioned by our mind, by our.

Speaker:

Ability for reason, rationality for cognition.

Speaker:

All of it starts there first.

Speaker:

You know, Let's just say you're struggling with fitness riding.

Speaker:

And you're not happy with where your body's at and you and.

Speaker:

That's that's the initial state, right?

Speaker:

So you're starting from that position.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

You're like, you know, you might be.

Speaker:

10 pounds, 20 pounds.

Speaker:

What are the 10, 5, 10 kilos overweight, whatever it is,

Speaker:

whereas different for everybody.

Speaker:

If that's your situation.

Speaker:

So sitting on that couch, you don't magically change, right?

Speaker:

Like you don't start to lose weight by sitting on the couch.

Speaker:

Well, there is one way you could do that, but not eating at all,

Speaker:

but we're not going to do that.

Speaker:

So what happens the first will always be what a cognitive shift.

Speaker:

That's why that famous book, you know, as a man thinketh,

Speaker:

Uh, you know, that's what the Bible says is, you know, as

Speaker:

a man thinketh in his heart.

Speaker:

So he is, so is he right?

Speaker:

So what begins first is some shifting cognition.

Speaker:

Now that can be a different perceived future, right?

Speaker:

So we begin to perceive that we're not happy with our physical body.

Speaker:

We want some kind of change.

Speaker:

And so the next thing we know.

Speaker:

We begin to exercise or we go for that first walk or we get out our phones or our

Speaker:

laptops, and we look up gyms in our area.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

But you can see that the change in our life, maybe, you know, three months

Speaker:

or six months later, let's say you've built in some really good habits and

Speaker:

you're in a different place physically.

Speaker:

That change in your life began from that seminal moment when you had a change.

Speaker:

Of mind.

Speaker:

Sometimes we call it a change of heart Domi, but there's kind of a

Speaker:

compenent treatian here between our emotional world, our heart and our

Speaker:

heads, but we change it in our heads.

Speaker:

We, we mentally perceive a different possibility.

Speaker:

We begin to see a different kind of future.

Speaker:

And as we see that.

Speaker:

Change begins.

Speaker:

You know, there's a few episodes ago.

Speaker:

I had a thing.

Speaker:

We had a quote from president theater Roosevelt who talked about belief.

Speaker:

He said, if you believe you can, you're halfway there.

Speaker:

If you believe you can.

Speaker:

You're halfway there.

Speaker:

If you change your mind, you are halfway to changing your life.

Speaker:

What comes next is the physical actions.

Speaker:

The change in diet or the change in how you manage your finances

Speaker:

or the change in the quality of your marriage or relationships

Speaker:

or the change in your career.

Speaker:

That change begins with that first cognitive shift.

Speaker:

So that's an extraordinary power, right?

Speaker:

Extraordinary power that you begin to take some discipline over how you think.

Speaker:

I have been saying this on the podcast for many years.

Speaker:

I am still coming to terms with it.

Speaker:

This incredible power that we actually have to stop, accepting the garbage

Speaker:

that our minds often wants to serve up.

Speaker:

Often it wants to serve up.

Speaker:

Really unhelpful things that are not going to move us forward,

Speaker:

but we can, we really can.

Speaker:

I have to work at this.

Speaker:

Change.

Speaker:

Our thinking change our minds, change how we actually structure reality by, by

Speaker:

realizing that we are not passive, that we don't have to think certain thoughts.

Speaker:

That we don't have to accept certain forms of cognition that we can actually go.

Speaker:

No, I'm not thinking this.

Speaker:

I don't go down that rabbit hole.

Speaker:

Those days are over.

Speaker:

I am changing my life and I'm changing my mind.

Speaker:

These things are possible.

Speaker:

They're not easy, but they're possible.

Speaker:

So my encouragement to you today is to begin to think about changing your mind.

Speaker:

Come on.

Speaker:

There's gotta be one area.

Speaker:

If you are listening to me, if you've listened this long in today's podcast,

Speaker:

there is at least one area of your life.

Speaker:

That you want to change?

Speaker:

So to do that, there is what is going to be necessary is a change of mind.

Speaker:

The first aspect of that change of mind is to perceive a different future.

Speaker:

You have to perceive a different future could be something different

Speaker:

tomorrow or in six months or a year, but there is going to be.

Speaker:

Uh, change there is going to be a different perception,

Speaker:

a different cognition.

Speaker:

You have to see something different in your mind.

Speaker:

And then once you have that picture, Then you can use that same mind to rationally.

Speaker:

Consider what decision points you have.

Speaker:

What actions you can actually take.

Speaker:

You know, one of my favorite speakers always just say, all

Speaker:

change happens in an instant people.

Speaker:

Think it took 30 years to quit smoking.

Speaker:

It did not.

Speaker:

It took a second to quit smoking.

Speaker:

It took 30 years to get to that point.

Speaker:

But when the change happens, it happens in an instant.

Speaker:

So when we change our minds and we go enough, this is over.

Speaker:

I'm not doing this.

Speaker:

This life changes.

Speaker:

This is going to be different to change of mind, that happens in an instant.

Speaker:

Then you take concrete actions and you take another one and another

Speaker:

one and another one and another one.

Speaker:

And you get moving forward.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

One more time.

Speaker:

The only way to change your life is to change your mind.

Speaker:

You're in, you have much more power than you think.

Speaker:

My friend, you have much more power than you think.

Speaker:

All right, everybody.

Speaker:

God bless you.

Speaker:

I hope that's useful.

Speaker:
