There is so much going on in our world.

We all need new skills.

We need to be a constantly encouraged and inspired.

Karen and I were on a conference call today and, uh, it was just fascinating to

Speaker:

hear the number of people talking about.

Speaker:

How much they have going on.

Speaker:

It's just seems to be this moment in human history.

Speaker:

Doesn't it.

Speaker:

So we've got to be so conscious.

Speaker:

About taking care of ourselves, using all the different skills

Speaker:

and capacities that we have and all the tools that are out there.

Speaker:

Hopefully.

Speaker:

This podcast is one of those tools.

Speaker:

One of those things that gets you going each day, I'm excited about

Speaker:

the direction of the podcast we have.

Speaker:

We're going to have a big pivot.

Speaker:

We're going to be doing a lot more guest interviews.

I just finished Jenny Tufts books solo in recent episodes.

Speaker:

I've been talking about that.

Speaker:

This remarkable woman that, uh, decided to run across most of the

Speaker:

world's greatest mountain ranges.

Speaker:

Why not.

Speaker:

I mean, if you got to do something with your time, right.

Speaker:

And then instead of sitting in front of the TV, want to go out

Speaker:

and run the world's greatest.

Speaker:

Greatest mountain ranges, but what I took out of the book.

Speaker:

I talked about a few weeks ago was just.

Speaker:

An interesting quote, you made about decision-making and just

Speaker:

about how sometimes you just got to make it, you just got to take

Speaker:

that choice and keep moving.

Speaker:

Karen and I have so much happening in our sort of business professional

Speaker:

lives and all the different things that we do and that she does.

Speaker:

Um, we often talk about this, that you just got to keep

Speaker:

making decisions each day.

Speaker:

For us.

Speaker:

It's just a process of decision after decision after decision.

Speaker:

So I think in life, people tend to fall into different categories.

Speaker:

Don't they, some people are really good at it.

Speaker:

Some people go into avoidance, they just don't make decisions.

Speaker:

And always remember that not making a decision is still making a decision.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

So we've got to be conscious.

Speaker:

We've got to be.

Speaker:

Deliberately making the choice.

Speaker:

To make choices.

Speaker:

We've got to be as often as possible looking at our life and constantly

Speaker:

moving towards what it is that we want.

Speaker:

We're never going to get perfection in this life.

Speaker:

We're never going to get things exactly the way we want them completely, but

Speaker:

there is something unique about the human journey is that we are desiring creatures.

Speaker:

We are capable of envisioning a different future.

Speaker:

I was talking to a friend on a training ride the other day about leadership and.

Speaker:

I remember quoting a Nepalian who famously said that the first duty of a leader.

Speaker:

Is to define reality.

Speaker:

And the last is to say, thank you.

Speaker:

I like this idea of defining reality, that Napoleon was like able

Speaker:

to kind of look into the future.

Speaker:

And construct it.

Speaker:

And it's interesting cause you know, Abraham Lincoln all assessed

Speaker:

that the best way to predict your future is to create it.

Speaker:

The best way to predict your future is to create it.

Speaker:

So there's this constant sense of.

Speaker:

Looking ahead and going, what do I want from this life?

Speaker:

What.

Speaker:

You know, you always hear me say what I want to have be, or do.

Speaker:

Because sometimes the criticism of motivation and personal development

Speaker:

is people like, well, we're always focusing on getting stuff.

Speaker:

Well,

Speaker:

It's having being, and doing and contributing.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

What do you want to contribute in the world?

Speaker:

So we want to consciously deliberately be aware of what it is that we want.

Speaker:

And then look at those steps and choices on a daily basis.

Speaker:

And I really believe that small steps matter that just these constant daily

Speaker:

small steps can make a huge difference.

Speaker:

They're significant.

Speaker:

They really are.

Speaker:

So don't underestimate just making little tweaks on a daily basis.

Speaker:

Now today, today's quote.

Speaker:

I want to focus on a great quote from president Theodore Roosevelt.

Speaker:

It resonates with something that's been on my mind a bit lately.

Speaker:

Uh, president Roosevelt said this believe you can.

Speaker:

And you're halfway there.

Speaker:

Believe you can.

Speaker:

And you're halfway there.

Speaker:

It's a great quote, reminds us of so many crucial principles, right?

Speaker:

This, this concept of faith.

Speaker:

I was listening to, uh, to ed Merlot's new book or ed my lip,

Speaker:

as he says his new book recently.

Speaker:

And the concept of faith, this remarkable.

Speaker:

It's a theory.

Speaker:

Isn't it?

Speaker:

It's hard to pin it down and go, well, what exactly is it?

Speaker:

Is it wishing his faith just to kind of hoping, you know, of course

Speaker:

in the Bible, it talks about faith is the, uh, you know, the hope of

Speaker:

things that we haven't yet seen.

Speaker:

The things that we know are coming.

Speaker:

We've just got a hold in there with faith and believe in them.

Speaker:

I think faith is a deliberate choice as well.

Speaker:

We're talking about choice today and decisions.

Speaker:

I think there were so many times in life where you have to choose faith.

Speaker:

It's like a muscle, you have to exercise it, you know, it's even

Speaker:

in the, in the, in the presence of circumstances or difficulties that

Speaker:

can really be quite challenging.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

You can think, well, how do I have fight in the midst of this?

Speaker:

Well, the answer is you choose to.

Speaker:

And you choose to, again, you know, for, for people like me and

Speaker:

I think many of you listening.

Speaker:

You know, if you've had, uh, challenges in life of life has really

Speaker:

tested you at times, it can be.

Speaker:

It can weigh you down, right.

Speaker:

You can actually kind of sometimes think what's the point and

Speaker:

what do I, how do I keep going?

Speaker:

Why do I keep getting up every day?

Speaker:

This, this remarkable human capacity for faith.

Speaker:

To just keep going.

Speaker:

One more step, one more step.

Speaker:

You know, so many of the great faith traditions in particularly in mind,

Speaker:

You know, tradition, Christianity.

Speaker:

In Jesus talks so relentlessly about faith.

Speaker:

You know, he sort of says, if you have the tiniest bit of faith, you can tell

Speaker:

a mountain to throw itself into the sea.

Speaker:

And so many of his miracles required faith required this decision to believe.

Speaker:

That things could be different.

Speaker:

You know, when he healed blind people there, the condition was that they

Speaker:

believed that they could possibly see.

Speaker:

You know, many times Jesus would say, do you want to be healed?

Speaker:

Do you believe you can?

Speaker:

Do you want to see.

Speaker:

People had to have the faith to at least believe it was possible.

Speaker:

So where did whatever you're facing in life at the moment?

Speaker:

Well, I guess my hope for my prayer for you, my faith for you is.

Speaker:

To start strengthening this muscle muscle.

Speaker:

Almost said muscle.

Speaker:

Muscle.

Speaker:

The ability to step into something that hasn't happened yet to keep going

Speaker:

to get up one more day and believe that you're going to get closer.

Speaker:

Just keep going for do one thing in this podcast is going to give you that

Speaker:

daily encouragement, that constant forward progression of hope and

Speaker:

faith, that things can be different.

Speaker:

If you make small, incremental daily choices.

Speaker:

All right.

Speaker:

So what did president Roosevelt's?

Speaker:

I believe you can you're halfway there.

Speaker:

Believe that it's possible.

Speaker:

And you're halfway there.

Speaker:

I watched a few moments the other day of, uh, the only one it's

Speaker:

about three or four minutes of it.

Speaker:

Before as usual, my tribe of children came in, had other ideas

Speaker:

about how I was using my time.

Speaker:

I basically never watched TV or anything like that, but I actually was watching

Speaker:

a couple of minutes of this Netflix.

Speaker:

Uh, documentary on the pro and professional PGA golfers.

Speaker:

And I think it was M J T is it Justin?

Speaker:

Thomas was who's one, one of the U S majors.

Speaker:

He said, Just this line.

Speaker:

He said, you know, from when I was the youngest age, I just wanted to

Speaker:

be the best golfer in the world.

Speaker:

You know, and look at this quote we're talking about today.

Speaker:

Believe you can, and you're halfway there.

Speaker:

I mean, imagine if he's dream had been, you know, I really believe in that

Speaker:

I can be in the top 40,000 golfers in the world, or I really believe.

Speaker:

You know, but he didn't write.

Speaker:

It was like, I believe I can be the best.

Speaker:

Now I'm a realist.

Speaker:

I know there's genetics involved and you've got to be born in a certain place.

Speaker:

There's definitely factors that we can't control in life.

Speaker:

But think about the fact that he had that first bedrock, right.

Speaker:

He had that belief.

Speaker:

Had the belief that it was possible, he could envision a

Speaker:

future where it was going to happen.

Speaker:

And once that belief was in place.

Speaker:

He was halfway there now, but the other half was the work and the

Speaker:

dismal and the travel and the fatigue and the uncertainty and the losses.

Speaker:

But without that preeminent belief.

Speaker:

No one's going anywhere.

Speaker:

Think about everything.

Speaker:

Great that's ever happened in human history.

Speaker:

You know, look good.

Speaker:

Martin Luther king Jr's right.

Speaker:

They had to believe it was possible that something could be slightly different

Speaker:

without that faith, nothing was changing.

Speaker:

So, whatever your circumstance is now you could have, it could

Speaker:

be a difficult relationship.

Speaker:

It could be financial problems could be health problems.

Speaker:

You've got to take that first single step of belief.

Speaker:

Okay.

Speaker:

That's my encouragement for you today.

Speaker:

Just begin.

Speaker:

And I really want to be practical.

Speaker:

It's.

Speaker:

It's a moment by moment mental practice.

Speaker:

It's not just a hope or a, or a wish that you send Skywood it's like, no.

Speaker:

I'm going to choose to have faith I'm going to choose to consciously

Speaker:

deliberately mentally believe that this is possible and i will keep moving forward

Speaker:

and I will keep believing this and i'll keep acting on it and speaking about

Speaker:

it and moving towards it All right my friends that's my message for you today

believe you can and you're halfway there get to work on your faith and the rest
