Speaker:It is starting to get cold here where I live.
Speaker:Didn't have much of a summer, to be honest, it was a bit sneaky.
Speaker:It kind of came and went and.
Speaker:It's been getting cold.
Speaker:And I've always been the kind of person that gets up and just gets after it,
Speaker:but I'm starting to go, you know, what.
Speaker:The Bahamas are looking good about now.
Speaker:So.
Speaker:Cause we're all.
Speaker:If it gets to like minus eight,
Speaker:In the middle of winter.
Speaker:So I'm not excited.
Speaker:I like parts of it.
Speaker:I like looking at winter.
Speaker:I have friends that love skiing and snow.
Speaker:I just, I just never really got into it.
Speaker:I always explain to people.
Speaker:I like looking at snow.
Speaker:I like being in a nice hotel, looking out the window, staring
Speaker:at the snow, but being in it.
Speaker:It's wet.
Speaker:It's cold.
Speaker:And you and you go skiing and you break your leg and it's
Speaker:just, I never understood it.
Speaker:So not looking forward to this winter friends, but we'll make the best of it.
Speaker:We're going to find a way to, uh, to extract.
Speaker:Some good things out of winter.
Speaker:All right.

Speaker:I want to give you a simple insight from a really interesting
Speaker:human called Sarah Blakely.
Speaker:She's a fascinating lady.
Speaker:She actually was the first self-made.
Speaker:Billionaire.
Speaker:In us history.
Speaker:So there's plenty of trust fund babies that have got their paws on a billion, but
Speaker:a Sarah Blake Lexi made it from scratch.
Speaker:She started the, uh, the Spanx brand.
Speaker:And I was watching an interview with her the other day.
Speaker:Which was quite fascinating.
Speaker:She's very down to earth, a very genuine person to listen to.
Speaker:And she was describing her journey, how she had this idea.
Speaker:And, and for seven years before, even beginning her business, she had
Speaker:been doing sales in fax machines.
Speaker:Now.
Speaker:Large numbers of my listeners will say, what is the fax machine?
Speaker:Friends, you can find them in museums of ancient history.
Speaker:There are, they're pretty fascinating machines that used to be used in
Speaker:business to send communication.
Speaker:Some of my listeners are going.
Speaker:Jonathan, we know what.
Speaker:You know, facts he's I know, but lots of people don't.
Speaker:So seven years as a fax machine sales person, and she was describing kind of.
Speaker:How soul destroying it'd become.
Speaker:And then she used this phrase that really struck with me.
Speaker:She said, I suddenly realized I'm in the wrong movie.
Speaker:It was a very interesting filter, a great metaphor.
Speaker:She felt that, uh, she was living a life.
Speaker:That was not what she had envisaged or what she had wanted.
Speaker:That the movie she was appearing in the movie of her life was not the
Speaker:movie that she wanted to continue in.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:A couple of episodes ago, talking about these remarkable human faculties.
Speaker:We have these, this.
Speaker:There's ability we have for desire.
Speaker:The, we are in many ways, restless beings.
Speaker:Aren't we like, we have times of peace in times of rest.
Speaker:And.
Speaker:People can come along and tell us that we should be peaceful and restful,
Speaker:and it's all within us to find that.
Speaker:I don't know about you, but I struggle.
Speaker:I often quote, I got to work really hard to, to settle and
Speaker:find peaceful nervousness.
Speaker:You know, I, uh, I'm somebody who's always trying to look for the
Speaker:next thing and looking forward to tomorrow and trying to move forward.
Speaker:But I love this line where she says I was in the wrong movie.
Speaker:I was in the wrong movie.
Speaker:So she began this process of steps.
Speaker:Was she slowly began to pivot and to go after what she really
Speaker:believed she was passionate about and what really mattered to her.
Speaker:Now, of course, that doesn't mean life ends up perfect.
Speaker:Does it?
Speaker:There's this sort of concept that if you find your dream and you find exactly what
Speaker:you're supposed to be doing, then life will just roll on into bliss forever.
Speaker:No, on this human journey.
Speaker:Uh, somebody else called it recently earth school, or we're here at earth school.
Speaker:It's never going to be perfection.
Speaker:It's never going to fulfill every single dream and expectation.
Speaker:That's what heavens for.
Speaker:But we do have this ability to look at our lives, look at the movie of our
Speaker:lives and say, am I in the right movie?
Speaker:You know, have I been cast in the right role?
Speaker:Am I enjoying how this narrative is playing out.
Speaker:And then to begin to look at that and make changes as necessary
Speaker:depending on each listener today, those changes could be minor.
Speaker:It could be a little script changed, just a few tweaks to the lighting of
Speaker:the movie, or maybe to the scenes.
Speaker:But for some of us, it could be walking out of that movie.
Speaker:I'm making radical change in our lives.
Speaker:Career change, you know, significant.
Speaker:Uh, changes in our friendships and our health and wellbeing.
Speaker:I'm not advocating anybody.
Speaker:You know, I listened to this podcast and I'm going to change everything in
Speaker:my life, you know, but you get my point.
Speaker:That you can look into it and say what needs to change.
Speaker:What, what has been on your heart to make different?
Speaker:What is something that you go, you know, what.
Speaker:This part of the movie is a part that needs to change.
Speaker:And as I've been saying in recent episodes, what we do is we begin
Speaker:to identify what needs to change.
Speaker:We start taking slow steps towards it.
Speaker:So friends, if Sara Blakely can recognize she's in the wrong movie
Speaker:and go on to create a remarkable level of success, that I'm pretty sure
Speaker:most of us can do something similar.
Speaker:It doesn't mean that you're going to start a billion dollar clothing label,
Speaker:but it just might mean that you take up a new habit or a new pastime or a new
Speaker:career, or you stop putting off that change that, you know, you need to make.
Speaker:So let's get ourselves in the right movies.
Speaker:Let's get ourselves in movies, congruent with the gifts and
Speaker:talents that God's given us.
Speaker:Some of us have these amazing abilities, but we're in the wrong place.
Speaker:You know, some of us are in places where we just not able to use the
Speaker:gifts and talents that we've got.
Speaker:So we need to get out of that movie.
Speaker:And get in, get custody where we need to be costed.
Speaker:Okay, so we're going to use this metaphor.
Speaker:We're going to use this filter to help us make new choices.
Speaker:All right friends.
Speaker:Hope that's useful.
Speaker:That's got you thinking or movie you in, is it the right movie?
Speaker:Is that the kind of movie you like?
Speaker:Is it the one that you'd pay to see?
Speaker:You know, somebody had to watch the movie of your life at some point,
Speaker:would they find the movie interesting, compelling, exciting, motivational.
Speaker:Would it be a tragedy?
Speaker:I was an action.
Speaker:Adventure is a tragedy.
Speaker:I hope it's not comedy, but you get the point.
Speaker:We do get to choose.
Speaker:What sort of movie and tapestry and history we create with our lives.
Speaker:And I want to be honest and say, look.
Speaker:This isn't about self-indulgence because the movies of our lives are intertwined
Speaker:with the movies of other people's lives.
Speaker:Of course they are.
Speaker:You know, I've got I've.
Speaker:I'm married.
Speaker:I have children.
Speaker:So.
Speaker:I'm not talking about going, oh, I don't like this movie anymore.
Speaker:I'm going to go start a new one.
Speaker:That's not what I mean.
Speaker:I mean, it's, it's about.
Speaker:Looking at our individual skills.
Speaker:Looking at our individual capacities and the things that
Speaker:light us up and move us forward.
Speaker:And just asking ourselves, are we in environments, careers, and relationships?
Speaker:That allow us to bring out all of that capacity and goodness
Speaker:and beauty that's inside us.
Speaker:All right, my friends, please make sure you've subscribed.
