A couple of years ago I was driving from SanFrancisco to LA along the highway down through the Big Sur National Park. Along the rugged Pacific coastline there are many incredible Cypress Pines. They cling to the rock faces above the cliffs. Apparently they endure incredible storms which cause them to grow strong by putting down deep roots.
